Gaining Neighbours After your Move to France

Posted on 21/08/2014

When you move home to France it would be nice if you could make friends and get on with your neighbours, but how do you do that? Your biggest problem will be to find reputable international movers that can help you with the France removal.

If you move to France then a BBQ in the nice weather is a good start, but you need to grab the good weather when you can wherever you are! Inviting your neighbours round, for food or a nosey, will always ensure you break the ice for that first informal chat. If you get the chance for a house warming party, be it indoors or out, then grab it with open arms. Your now new neighbours will relish the chance to meet the new people next door plus get the chance to see their home and how it is decorated and set out!
In the summer, if space is available, then a BBQ is ideal as it will let you make the most of the outdoor space plus then indoor. Your neighbours will appreciate the effort you have gone to in making them food plus letting them see your new home, whether you are ready for them or not! Putting on a BBQ; some chicken, steak, pork & fish, along with some beer and wine will definitely be appreciated by all that attend. The relaxed atmosphere will allow you to get to know those that live around you and enjoy their input to the evening.

If you are moving in the colder/cooler months then an indoor evening will be more suited. Some sausage rolls, pizza and crisps will ensure everyone attending has something to eat and enjoys the atmosphere around them.

But why should you go to all that bother? Well, if you are out at work and you need to someone to collect a delivery then you will be relying on your neighbours. If you are away on holiday then you will be able to relax more knowing that those around you are keeping an eye on your home.  It is a two way street, if you are in the position to help out your neighbours then you should do so as the favour will more than likely be returned at some point.

It is also good to have someone to chat to; no matter who you are living with it is always good to know that there are people round about you that you can consider a confidant. Whether it is to open your heart or merely have a gossip, then you know you have someone in a neighbour to speak to.

If you are carrying out home improvements then make sure you tell your neighbours, they will appreciate that you have considered them when all the noise (which is probably nothing to them but a lot to you) goes on. They will like the fact they you have thought about them and spoken to them beforehand. This applies to wallpapering or a new fitted kitchen, it will give you the chance to chat if nothing else.

We have neighbours that are nearly 90 years old and they relish the chatter and noise that our children bring to them. You may think that your household is being noisy but your neighbours may be enjoying knowing that the next generation is growing up next door, and keeping them young and involved in the process!
