France Removals Health and Safety Policy
France Removals is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety across all moving and relocation services we provide. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks for our employees, contractors, clients, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related ill health by creating a culture where safety is integral to every removal project. We will provide safe systems of work, safe equipment, and appropriate training to ensure that all tasks, from packing and lifting to driving and unloading, are carried out responsibly and with care.
Senior management is responsible for providing clear leadership on health and safety matters and for ensuring this policy is implemented, reviewed, and updated as needed.
Responsibilities and Safety Culture
Health and safety is a shared responsibility within France Removals. Management, supervisors, drivers, porters, packers, and office staff all have defined roles in ensuring safe operations across our service areas.
Management will:
Provide and maintain a safe working environment, including vehicles, equipment, and storage facilities.
Ensure risk assessments are carried out for relevant activities, and that findings are communicated and acted upon.
Allocate sufficient resources for safety training, maintenance, and protective equipment.
Employees and contractors will:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Follow all safety instructions, procedures, and training they have received.
Immediately report hazards, near misses, or incidents to their supervisor or manager.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
France Removals carries out risk assessments for typical removal tasks, including packing, handling, loading, transport, and unloading. These assessments inform our safe systems of work and protective measures.
Key risk areas include manual handling of furniture and boxes, use of lifting equipment, operation of removal vehicles, work in client premises, and work at height when loading or securing goods.
We are committed to eliminating hazards where possible, and where they cannot be eliminated, to controlling risks through safe procedures, training, and equipment.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a central element of removal work, and France Removals promotes safe handling techniques at all times. All staff involved in lifting and carrying receive guidance and training in correct posture, team lifting, and load assessment.
We provide suitable handling aids and equipment, such as trolleys, dollies, ramps, straps, and protective covers, to reduce the physical strain on workers and to minimise the chance of damage to property. Employees must inspect equipment before use and report any defects immediately so that faulty items are removed from service.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are critical to the safe delivery of removal services. France Removals ensures that all vehicles used in operations are regularly inspected, maintained, and kept in a roadworthy condition.
Only authorised and competent drivers may operate company vehicles. Drivers are required to follow safe driving practices, adhere to speed limits, secure loads correctly, and comply with all road safety regulations within the regions in which we operate.
Drivers must carry out basic pre-use checks on vehicles and loading equipment, and report any concerns so that remedial action can be taken before travel.
Client Premises and Public Safety
We recognise that removal work is often carried out in and around client homes, offices, and public spaces. Our teams aim to minimise disruption and ensure safety wherever we operate.
Before starting work at a location, staff are expected to assess access routes, stairways, lifts, and loading areas for potential hazards. Where necessary, they will introduce temporary measures, such as floor protection, warning signs, or cordoned areas, to protect clients and members of the public.
We expect all employees to behave professionally, keep work areas tidy, and store tools and packing materials safely to reduce the risk of slips, trips, and falls.
Training, Information, and Supervision
France Removals provides appropriate health and safety training for employees according to their roles and responsibilities. This may include induction training, safe lifting and handling, use of equipment, emergency procedures, and site-specific instructions.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for monitoring working practices and ensuring that staff follow agreed procedures. Refresher training or additional instruction is provided whenever work methods, equipment, or legislation change, or where performance indicates a need.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, and near misses must be reported as soon as reasonably practicable so that they can be recorded, investigated, and used to improve safety standards. We maintain an accident record and review trends to identify where further action is required.
Employees are informed of emergency procedures, including how to respond to incidents such as fire, injury, vehicle breakdown, or spillage. Staff must follow these procedures and cooperate with any investigation or corrective actions that follow an incident.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
France Removals encourages open communication about health and safety. Employees are invited to share concerns, suggest improvements, and participate in discussions about safe working practices. Where necessary, we will consult with staff and relevant external advisers to ensure our procedures remain effective and up to date.
This policy is reviewed regularly to reflect developments in our services, changes in legislation, and best practice in the removals industry. Our aim is to continually improve our performance so that every move is carried out as safely as reasonably possible.
Policy Review and Approval
This Health and Safety Policy has been approved by the management of France Removals and applies to all areas of our operations. It will be reviewed periodically and revised when necessary to ensure it remains relevant and effective in supporting a safe environment for our staff, clients, and the wider community.
